Picture the scene. You're running a workshop or seminar, or participating in one. It's great, you're with a really stimulating group of people. Lots of discussion. One of the tools you use to express your ideas and get your points across is the good ol' flipchart or whiteboard, those mainstays of office meeting rooms, conferences and other events. Your event ends. And what about all those great ideas written on the whiteboard or paper flipcharts with marker pens? Someone … [Read more...] about Converting flipchart knowledge
"Make communications more exciting" is how I would summarize the sentiment of all who participated in the two Melcrum workshops on intranets and social media that I co-presented in London last week and in Manchester the week before. Indeed, that was the first answer to the question "Why are you here?" that my co-presenter Dave Wallace and I asked our group in London last week. Although many different answers emerged from all the participants, that first answer really does capture the … [Read more...] about A promising future for intranets and social media
Adding to the calendar of events I'll be speaking at during 2006 are two more I've agreed to take part in: Podcastday 2006, the first international podcast conference in Germany, takes place in Cologne on 24 May. One of the lead organizers is Nicole Simon so expect some pre-event podcasts. Wearing my For Immediate Release hat, I'll be part of a panel addressing the topic of "corporate communication: new ways with podcasts and blogs." My fellow panelists are Sven Dörrenbächer from … [Read more...] about Spreading the word in Germany and Sweden
For the IABC 2006 international conference in Vancouver, Canada, in June, Shel and I are co-hosting and producing ConferenceCast, the official podcasts of the conference, as we announced in February. The first podcast is now available for download, audio stream, and RSS subscription from In Session, the new conference blog that will formally launch on Monday. The first podcast features interviews with members of the Gold Quill Awards Blue Ribbon judging panel which Shel conducted last month. … [Read more...] about IABC launches conference podcast and blog
Travelling to the UK today, ahead of co-presenting the second one-day workshop for Melcrum in London tomorrow on Enhancing your Intranet with New Technology: How to Make the Most of Social Media. The first one in this series was in Manchester last week. That workshop was very interesting indeed. I'm expecting the one on Thursday to be equally so. A post likely on both next week. Speaking of events, Blogging 4 Business took place in London yesterday. I was due to participate as a presenter but, … [Read more...] about News on the go
I arrived in Manchester in north-west England today ahead of my particpation in a one-day workshop for Melcrum I'm co-presenting tomorrow entitled Enhancing your Intranet with New Technology: How to Make the Most of Social Media. This is my third experience flying to and from Manchester with Jet2, a low-cost airline. I'm far more impressed than I thought I would have been. New Boeing 737s, efficient and friendly service and of course low cost (about half the price a KLM ticket costs on the same … [Read more...] about What more could you want when the sun is shining?
As we're about to head into the second quarter of 2006, I'm reviewing my schedule for conferences and workshops I'm involved with as a speaker/presenter. I invest a great deal in time and commitment to spreading the word about the value of social media in organizational communication by getting involved with a range of conferences, seminars and other professional development events around Europe and in the USA. So far this year, I've been part of two successful events - the New Communications … [Read more...] about More spreading the word
