• Broadcast Your Location To Friends With Google Latitude. It installed on my Nokia N95 8GB as an updated version of Google Maps with Latitude: it works great. Surprised no version yet for iPhone.
• Hasta la Vista. It’s Windows 7 or Nothing. Imagine if lots of other small/medium-size businesses did what Joe Thornley’s firm is doing.
• Animoto Launches The Perfect Last-Minute Valentine’s Gift. Animoto, the photos-to-video service, is one of the best things to hit the web.
• Virgin Media is about to activate its social media. Some good results look like coming out of Brendan Cooper’s bad experiences.
• Fake Social Network Profiles: a New Form of Identity Theft in 2009. Sarah Perez: “If you don’t own and control your online persona, it’s relatively easy for a criminal to aggregate the known public information about you in order to create a fake one.”
• Announcing the Microsoft Fix it for me Blog. For when you’re totally bamboozled by Windows error reporting messages and incomprehensible Knowledge Base search results.
• Searches for e-books double. Data from Hitwise. This is great but hardly any devices to read your e-books are on the market here in the UK (no Kindle, for instance).
• As snow hits the UK the Twitter mashups storm in. The one on the tag #uksnow was especially good, nice use of Google Maps.
• Whitehouse.gov Redesign: The Change Has Come. Pretty good assessment. I’d still love to know what the tech platform is (speculation in the post’s comments that it’s Expression Engine).
• RDGTwestival: tickets for #twestival in Reading are available now, http://reading.twestival.com, Please RT. I’m going to be there on Feb 12, at one of over 100 cities worldwide holding a Twestival.
