About

neville80 ‘Next’ is a blog that will help satisfy my curiosity about technology - what it means to people and how we communicate.

I’m Neville Hobson, a communicator, blogger and podcaster based in the UK. (If you want the full Monty on my background, that’s all on my main blog.)

Hardware, software, social media, the net, mobile, Web 2.0, gadgets… I’ll write about all such things here.

Next’s tagline is key to what I pay attention to: “Not just the Here and Now.”

How is technology developing? How will what we see today look like in six to twelve months, never mind five years? And how are people’s behaviours changing, particularly in terms of our expectations from technology?

These are some of the primary questions I plan to focus on here in what I write about. I don’t promise to write every day. I will write when I have something to say which might be once a week or once a month. I may also cross-post content from here to my main blog, NevilleHobson.com, if I think something I’ve written might be of interest to a wider audience.

I’ll also do the occasional podcast, both audio and video.

Why not subscribe to the RSS feed and see what shows up in your reader?

You’ll notice an “Under Construction” graphic in the sidebar. While graphics depicting a workman digging up a road were common on website-building in the 90s - and are pretty naff when you see them today - I think this one’s appropriate for a number of reasons.

First, this site is under construction. Today, that would be called “beta.” Well, this graphic combines the best of both worlds.

It’s also got a very Web 2.0-ish look about it. Credit for creating this graphic goes to Paul Battley.

And credit for the image in the updated banner is due to Herman Brinkman.

I hope you find ‘Next’ useful. And I hope it helps satisfy your curiosity.
