At the end of this post, you’ll notice a little image saying ‘share.’ If you move your mouse over it, it will expand and display the logos of a few place that you see here where you can share the link.

The service to enable this is called AddThis and I’m using it instead of ShareThis which regular visitors will have seen adorning blog posts here during much of 2008.

Why the change? Well, I have nothing bad to say about ShareThis since I started using it, so it’s not due to a negative experience that I’m making this change.

It’s more to do with seeing how another service – one that more people have told me about that told me about ShareThis – actually works and whether people will find it more helpful in sharing content they find useful.

I’ve had the AddThis plugin for WordPress running for the past few days. Apart from making it very easy to enable the functionality (ShareThis also has an equally-easy WordPress plugin), it also means I can track usage in a stats module on the AddThis website (ShareThis ditto).

One thing I wish it would do, which it doesn’t, is give me a settings option on my blog to show the widget on posts only and not pages (ShareThis lets me do that). Even better – let me selectively choose specific pages to either include or exclude.

Still, I like its simplicity. But very early days yet to say whether AddThis will be a permanent fixture.
