How to get depressed with Technorati

technoratirightnowI was looking for something on Technorati just now and glanced at the top searches and hot tags lists on the home page.

Technorati certainly does reflect the topical issues people want to find commentary and opinion about from the blogosphere. I found it quite depressing that the top search term was for “World War III.” But with what’s going on in the Middle East right now, it looks like a Nostradamus prediction, one that is looking alarmingly realistic.

I wonder how that search result breaks down. Would it be a term being searched for more by people closer to the war zone, or by people further away?

When I looked at the list a bit more closely, I saw the word “Dreamhost.” Surely not the Dreamhost that is the hosting service I use for this blog? Maybe that’s the only ray of sunshine here. And seeing “Zidane” in there at number two seems quite fitting in the context of a list that has such a focus on violence, death and destruction.

What depressing lists.
