[...] What I’ve been doing for some months is photographing whiteboards and flipcharts with my Nokia N70 cameraphone (such as at the workshop I co-presented in London earlier this month). At least I have a record even if it is just a 2-megapixel digital image file. I can share it so everyone can still have that information. [...]

Yes, I know quite a lot about the IBM experience, Marcel. We talked about what IBM is doing with intranets and taxonomy (in particular) during the workshops.

Re those environmental factors you mention, there is no 'template answer,' in my view. Culture, org structure, IT framework... such things play an influencing and dynamic role in how an intranet itself (never mind social media) is structured and used, as well as regarded by those who use it. We had some interesting opinions on these points from the participants in both workshops.

As for hearing the workshop in a podcast, I would love to do something like that in an upcoming one. Stay tuned!

Hi Neville,

Thanks for sharing this with us. I would love the hear the workshop in a podcast, but I guess that was not an option.

As for the tagging, were you aware of IBM looking into this? I especially liked the careful sentence "there is a bias toward increased transparency in these tools".

The idea of tagging is a very nice one, but what about the main "environmental factors" determining the success of this for the particular company? What should be in place (sharing culture etc.)? How are you going to reach the critical mass for these types of applications to work?

Just my two cents...

Best regards,
Marcel
